General Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead its Mainland China business. Based in Shanghai, the role carries full P&L responsibility and oversees commercial growth, business development, retail and operations, e-commerce, marketing and people leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership of the Mainland China P&L, including revenue, costs, profitability and overall business performance.
  • Develop and execute commercial strategies to drive sustainable business growth.
  • Build, develop and maintain strong relationships with brand partners and key business stakeholders.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams across business development, retail, operations, e-commerce, marketing and other key functions.
  • Drive retail performance, operational efficiency and a high-quality customer experience.
  • Oversee online and offline business performance and identify opportunities to improve sales, conversion and customer engagement.
  • Monitor market developments, consumer trends and competitive activities to identify growth opportunities.
  • Lead, develop and motivate the management team while fostering strong collaboration and accountability across functions.
  • Manage relationships effectively with local teams, regional leadership and external business partners.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of business leadership experience, with genuine P&L ownership.
  • Proven commercial and business management experience with responsibility for revenue growth and profitability.
  • Relevant experience within luxury, fashion, beauty, premium retail, outlet, e-commerce, marketplace or omnichannel retail environments would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of the Mainland China market and consumer landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple business functions and lead senior teams.
  • Strong business development, negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Commercially minded, solutions-oriented and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
  • Native/fluent Mandarin and full professional proficiency in English.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or a related discipline; MBA would be advantageous.
